Seema and I married six months ago. Her father passed away when she was young. Being an only female child in the family, she could not finish most of the rituals. Now, as her husband, I was liable for those duties. One fine morning, Seema told me, we have to go to her mother and finish all the pending rituals, which are still pending. I was unaware of the ceremonial, but I loved Seema enough to do everything for her. The next day we left to see her mother. Her village was very nice, unlike cities, it was clean and less crowded. After five hours of traveling, we were finally home. Her mother was pleased to see us. After getting fresh we chatted about our lives, and then the ritual topic came up. I asked Seema's mother, "So, what is this ritual is about and what all things I have to do?" She replied, "The ritual is for 21 days, in which you have to perform some duties." I smiled and said, "Sure, we can start it from tomorrow." Seema's mother was happy to hear that and said, "That will be nice." Then we all went to bed. Early morning at around 5 am, Seema's mother woke me up and said, "get ready and come down." I got ready and went to the living room. I saw one middle-aged man standing in the corner with a metal box hanging in his hand. Seema's mother saw me and signaled the middle-aged. Soon he started unlocking the box and removed the white cape and some shaving equipment. I didn't know what was happening, so I asked, "What are we doing?" Seema's mother looked at me and said, "This is part of the ritual. Now you will shave your head living a small amount of hair in the center." I did not see that coming. But, being a man of the family, I have to do it. I went and sat on the ground. Then the barber started wrapping cape around my neck. The cape was dirty, so Seema's mother asked the barber to take off the cape. Then she handed him a clean towel and asked to use that. He did as he was instructed. Then he started pouring water on my hair to make it wet for a head shave. After he was convinced with wet hair, he took the straight razor and placed it in the middle top of my head, and started shaving my head. Hair was falling on the ground. My hair scalp was getting clean and smooth. His hand was very stiff due to which, it was hurting while shaving. But, I kept quiet. He then turned my head toward the right and started shaving. He knew how much hair needs to be left behind. In the same way, he shaved me from the Left side as well. Now I was shaved from the top and both the sides. Seema was also watching me getting my head shaved. When I looked at her with a half-shaved head, she gave me a flying kiss. I don't know about the others, but Seema was enjoying my head shave. Soon barber shaved my head from the back. Now I was bald with little hair in the center of my head. After shaving my head, the barber gathered my shaved hair and put them in the plastic bag. Seema's mother came and paid for shaving my head and, he left. She came to me placed her hand on my shaved head. quickly her facial expression changed, and she went to the door to see if the barber is still there. But he was long gone by then. She said, "What kind of head shave is this. It is not even smooth." Then she went to the storeroom. Seema and I were waiting for her to return. She came out holding a copper color straight razor. She gave it Seema and said, "Run this razor on his head again. Only shave the bald portion." Seema was confused and said, "Mom, I never used a razor. I don't was risk hurting him." Her mother replied, "Ok, This time, I will shave his head. You watch carefully because now you have to shave his head daily for 21 days." I was shocked to hear that. Now Seema's mother came and sat behind me. She placed the straight in the front of my shaved head and started shaving it toward the back. She was taking the long stroke and after every stroke, she was wiping the shaved hair on the towel. Barber only shaved my head, but she shaved my head smooth. Seema was watching her mother while she was shaving my head. Because from tomorrow, it will be her task to shave my head. Soon she smoothly shaved my bald head. Then she asked me to take a bath and go to the temple to start the ritual. The next day I woke up and went to exercise. After the workout, I went into the house and called Seema. She came quickly and stood there waiting for my instructions. I said, "Get the straight razor. I will get fresh after head shave." She nodded her head and, went into the room to get the straight razor. I asked her if she changed the blade. She replied, " Yes, I just inserted a new blad. Now bend your head it is time to shave your head smooth again." I bent my head and, she started running the straight razor on my head in all directions. She was doing it carefully, to avoid shaving the leftover hair in the center of my head. Now, this became my daily routine for the next 19 days. Seema use to shave my head daily. Now it was the last day. As usual, I came home and Seema shaved my head. But this her mother came and said, "Seema ritual will be finished today. Shave his complete head. I am sure he must be hating this look." and started laughing. I did not say anything but replied with a smile. Seema again sat behind me and started shaving the hair from the center of my head. That was the last hairy piece left on my head, which was shaved now leaving me completely bald. She ran the razor all over my head again to make sure my head was smoothly shaved. After completing the last day, we started packing. While packing Seema's mother came into our room and handed sandalwood powder to Seema. She said, "It is summer already, so it is better you keep your husband's head shaved for a few more months. Apply sandalwood paste on his head after shaving his head every day to keep his scalp cool." Seema looked at me and smiled and replied to her mother, "Sure, I will shave his head till the paste finishes." Then her mother replied, "If you are planning to do that then, I see his head shaved this whole year. I hope you are ok with bald husband." After saying this we all started laughing. It is five months now since the ritual. I am still bald because Seema is shaving my head daily and even I like getting my head shaved every day. Let's see how long my head shave continues.
